E mail from IM Bright to ARMSASCI:
I am very thankful for your guidance with regard to the course at ASCI. Are there no faults in the course at all? Is everything so hunky dory? Why in that case was the course , having a capacity of 25 be attended by only a handful of officers? Are you hiding something from me? Are you paid by ASCI to advertise this course? Like Arjuna before proceeding to wage the Kurukshetra war I also have a lot of questions. I am confused . Please guide me....

I understand your confusion . Let us talk...
Google Chat Room:
AA: Let us first complete the syllabus and then we will come to the juicy bits and scandals .
IM : Oh I do love gossiping....
AA: Like I said we had lessons in Strategic Management by Profs Arindam Das and Prof Mahapatra. Both have joined ASCI and are brimming with knowledge and the urge to offload it on students willing to learn. Prior to that we had classes on organisation behaviour . Again there were good instructors in form of Dr Vishwanath who can read the soul of a bird sitting on a tree by just the way it flaps its wings. Prof Dimple who is very fiesty and prod Subhashini who is stable and solid in her in her subject . One good subject we learnt was communication. This was taught by prof Swarnalata. Her method of instruction was very informal and nice . She is good at a subject called negotiations . All in all a good instructor.Classes on Entrepreneurship were conducted by Prof Mrs Anand. Who was extremely articulate knowledgeable and expressive. We had one class on environment by a very good Prof ..... who was very passionate about the environment and how the laws are being subverted all over the country by uncaring builders. One class on managerial computing by a lady Nirmala apsingikar who was fantastic. We also had classes on hospital management - they have a dedicated long course for two years running for young hopefuls hence there was no dearth of instructors... And then there was this prof Reshmi Nair who taught us about land acquisition and government laws therein. This was our last class. I may have missed out one or two classes I will tell you more when I do remember them....
IM: And now you promised a critique on the entire course...
AA: Yes I will. I am going to tackle it point wise for easy understanding...
1. Instructors: The instructors are very good and have a lot of experience and a dedicated lot.
2. Administration : Good. The food is good and surprisingly palatable. The first time you enter the dining hall , you feel that there is so much food and will it be consumed in a single meal? People eat hell of a lot and it was consumed .
3. Accomodation: This was one place where they were sadly lacking and might hit their bottom line . I think they should offer the rooms to officers - either on similar rates as prevailing in IIMs or charge about Rs 7500/- exclusively for the room.
4. Wastage. There was plenty of wastage as far as paper and stationary were concerned. In this aspect ASCI is sadly lacking.
5. Conduct of the Course: Unlike other courses being conducted ad hocism works with us only to a certain extent. Like I was mentioning earlier schedule of the course was not known. Distribution of classes was not known till given by instructors themselves. Co- ordination in this aspect I felt was sadly lacking. Daily programme was streamlined to a certain extent only after sometime then there was marginal deterioration towards the end of the course.
6. Visits: In spite of the fact that visits to various places would be conducted this petered out somewhere along the mid course. We visited only two places of any interest at all in the end.
7. Interactions:There were really no interactions worth talking about. If this did happen then it was incidental and had been planned for some other course and as an afterthought we were dovetailed into the same.
8. Working/ Observing Civil Companies: This could have been programmed for a week. Asci has immense amount of goodwill in the civil organisations which could have been utilised towards this end.
9. Placement: While this was said to be part of the programme it has not really worked out till date - and we are in the last day of the course . This is one issue which the ASCI should have put in a bit more of effort or rather planned effort which was lacking .

10. Tackling Service Officers : We got on famously well with the staff and the lecturers alike . However we could have been better off had they spoken to us and asked us what we expected.
So I think I have more or less covered everything on the course . Some suggestions may be in order but again it is going to waste your time since I don't want to dampen your entire enthusiasm for the course . Suffice it to say that it (ASCI) is one of the premier or the premier institution of the country where you can learn a lot from the dedicated and excellent instructors . All the best .Any further queries may please be addressed to me. Oh by the way one suggestion which I would like to give is conducting a part of the course in Delhi campus .
